A brief history of the partner within Nepal
Throughout its 64-year history of working in Nepal, USAID has supported the Government of Nepal in its pursuit of better health outcomes for its people. From 1950-1970, USAID helped form the Family Planning Association of Nepal, control malaria in the Terai, and establish the Family Planning and Maternal Child Health unit at the MOHP. From 1971-1995, USAID helped establish the Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV) program, pilot Vitamin A research, and found Nepal Contraceptive Retail Sales. From 1996-2005, USAID conducted two Demographic and Health Surveys, supported the creation of several sub-committees (FP, Safe Motherhood, Child Health), and worked to establish the contraceptive forecasting and Commodity Security system. More recently, USAID’s health program has evolved to be a complex program with 20 staff and approximately $40 million (USD) annual budget.
